Reflection

As I have worked on this project for the entirety of my senior year of high school, I have experienced a multitude of limitations and changes to my Capstone final project. Specifically, I have had a difficult time designing the water filter to be simple and most of my time was spent creating blueprints and brainstorming ideas for the final product. This created problems such as the ineffectiveness of  going to Home Depot or ordering materials to build the water filtration system in an orderly fashion to give enough time to building and testing. Additionally, it was increasingly hard due to budgeting and the current pandemic to achieve the goals of the project.

Overall, if I am being honest, I am not proud or happy with how my project turned out. When I think of my final product and showcase for my Capstone project, all I can think about is that it is a run of the mill science fair project. I feel that I could have done infinitely better and achieved a better result, my concern with this project is that it doesn’t reach up to my standard of a good project- high quality project that is both logically thought out and creative. My reasoning for me feeling this way is the realization that things didn’t work out the way I planned. I learned that being an engineer/scientist means that your ideas are going to suck and not work from time to time. The only way to fix that is to keep moving forward and to try and remedy what isn’t working to the best of your ability. The final product may not be where I want it to be and it may not be in the best working condition to be called complete, but what matters from this learning experience is that I came away from it knowing that it's ok for my design not to work.
